Lviv hosted a forum of Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council

On June 23-25, a Lviv sitting of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) was held. Mykhailo Gonchar, President of the Centre for Global Studies Strategy XXI, took part in the sitting. 

The meeting is being held with the participation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy, the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Madeleine Moon, co-chairs of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council R. Andriichuk and Hanna Hopko, the Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the NATO PA O. Yurynets as well as delegates of the deputation  A.Kozhemiakin, A.Levus, I.Lutsenko; Borys Tarasiuk (MP), members of delegations to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly from 12 countries of the world, the Vice-Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, the Minister for  Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Friz, and representatives of the OSCE Special  Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the NATO Representation to Ukraine and others.

During the meeting, the participants discussed a number of important issues on the agenda, including the issue of strengthening Ukraine-NATO cooperation, the state of play in reforming the Ukrainian defence sector, progress achieved in the implementation of the annual national programme and Ukrainian legislation in the field of national security.

Particular attention was paid to the humanitarian and security situation in eastern Ukraine.

During the forum, the conferees also discussed all aspects of modern information warfare, strategic communications and challenges for public diplomacy.  One of the most momentous issues on the agenda was the discussion of the results of recent Ukraine’s presidential election, and, in particular, its consequences for Ukraine's domestic and foreign policy.

Participants of the meeting will also visit the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy, as scheduled by the Lviv forum programme.
