The long and difficult road to peace in Europe

Since the beginning of 2025, there have been increasing discussions at various levels about the need to cease hostilities in Ukraine and move to negotiations to conclude a peace agreement.

At the initiative of US President Donald Trump, a series of meetings between representatives of Ukraine and the Russian Federation were held, mediated by high-ranking White House representatives in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, with the aim of achieving at least a temporary ceasefire. But these meetings did not have a positive result, except for the exchange of prisoners.

If in the second half of 2022, after the successful actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to liberate the northeastern regions of Ukraine and the right-bank Kherson region, we often heard on the radio and television that the war should end with the liberation of all occupied territories and a return to the borders as of the beginning of 2014, today, unfortunately, we practically do not hear this. Since from 2023 to today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been in a state of strategic defense in response to the continuous offensive actions of the enemy troops, the task of liberating all the territories occupied by the racists in the East and South of Ukraine by military or diplomatic means is postponed to a rather distant future. Today, our Victory is the preservation of the state on 4/5 of the territory of Ukraine, the further development of the economy and the defense industry, the introduction of reforms necessary for accession to the EU and NATO, the return of millions of Ukrainians home. If we are strong and smart, then the time will come and we will definitely liberate 1/5 of the territories temporarily occupied today.
