Event: Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership after 2020

Event: Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership after 2020

Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Office in Ukraine organize the International online discussion “Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership after 2020” to be held on July 21, 2020, in Kyiv (Ukraine).

The European Union included Ukraine into its initiative – the Eastern Partnership, to develop multilateral cooperation. Meanwhile, there is a bilateral dimension of the EU-Ukraine relations, which is based on the Association Agreement. In 2020, the "20 key achievements of the Eastern Partnership until 2020", which defined the specific goals and objectives of this European Union initiative, will be completed.

Work on the future vision of the Eastern Partnership after 2020 began in advance. The online Eastern Partnership Summit was held on June 18, 2020, a month ago, and the German Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2020 should set the stage for finalizing the EU's vision for the further development of this initiative by the “real” Eastern Partnership summit in March 2021. Although the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has announced five priorities of the Eastern Partnership, it is important that the interests of Ukraine are taken into account as much as possible.

Prospects of Ukraine's European integration in the context of a new vision for the further development of the Eastern Partnership after 2020 and its preparation during the German Presidency of the EU Council will be discussed at the event. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ukrainian and German experts will focus on the issues:

1) Conceptual views on the further development of the Eastern Partnership.

2) The economic side of the partnership - practical content of mutually beneficial cooperation.

3) Energy in the context of the Eastern Partnership.
